Aspect Tree Consultancy has been trading as an independent practice since 2008, and has grown steadily ever since. The company has a strong team with a diverse range of experience.

DOMINIC SCANLON

Director & Senior Arboricultural Consultant

Dom holds a Level 6 qualification in Arboriculture. He became a Fellow of the Arboricultural Association in 2005, a Chartered Environmentalist in 2008 and an ICF Registered Consultant in 2015. He is qualified to carry out Quantified Tree Risk Assessments (QTRA) and to use the VALID Tree Risk-Benefit Management & Assessment method.

He spent 10 years working in local government planning departments, including an urban design team, in the southwest. He was responsible for protected trees, planning advice, appraising landscaping schemes, along with tree inspections on Council-owned land. He progressed into the private sector in 2004, establishing and running a consultancy department within a tree contracting company. 

Dom set up Aspect Tree Consultancy in 2008. His wide-ranging experience gives him a valuable insight into planning, protected tree legislation and LPA processes.

Dom also teaches arboriculture on a part-time basis, to both apprentices and experienced arboriculturists. He is an approved LANTRA assessor for Professional Tree Inspectors and provides Basic Tree Inspection courses for non-arboriculturists.

RICHARD FLETCHER

Senior Arboricultural Consultant

Richard holds a Foundation degree in Arboriculture and is a Professional member of the Arboricultural Association. He holds the LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection certificate, is qualified to carry out Quantified Tree Risk Assessments (QTRA) and to use the VALID Tree Risk-Benefit Management & Assessment method.

Richard spent five years as an inner-London Tree Officer, dealing with all aspects of planning matters in relation to trees. As a Tree Officer in Surrey, he led a review of TPOs, and he also has extensive experience of dealing with TPO appeals. 

After moving to Devon, Richard become Senior Arboricultural Officer in Torbay, before joining the Aspect team in 2019.

GILL BROWNLIE

Office Manager

After many years working in the airline industry, a move to Devon led to a career change when Gill joined a local tree contracting company. Over the next two decades, she gained experience in all aspects of running a small arboricultural business and studied with the Chartered Institute for Personnel & Development. 

Gill joined the Aspect team as Office Manager in 2019 and is the first line of contact for clients. She manages our current projects, from initial enquiry through to completion and has a comprehensive knowledge of the development process and TPO legislation. 

JAMES GREIG

Arboricultural Consultant

James studied for the Tech Cert in 2007 and is continuing his professional development with the Level 6 Professional diploma in Arboriculture. James holds the LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection certificate and is qualified to carry out Quantified Tree Risk Assessments (QTRA) and to use the VALID Tree Risk-Benefit Management and Assessment method. 

James has over 20 years’ experience as a tree surgery contractor, working in the UK, Europe, and Australasia. He joined Aspect in 2017 as a trainee arboricultural consultant. He has extensive experience of undertaking Tree Risk Assessments and of the management and preservation of Ancient Trees and Woodlands. He has comprehensive knowledge of tree legislation and of the complexities of dealing with trees within the planning system.

JASON TREWINNARD

Arboricultural Consultant

Jason has a Master’s degree in Arboriculture and is a Professional member of the Arboricultural Association. He also holds the LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection certificate and is a registered user of the Quantified Tree Risk Assessment system.

Jason has over 30 years’ experience in the arboricultural industry, beginning his arboricultural career as a tree surgeon. He spent twelve years as a Tree Officer with local authorities in both the southeast and the southwest of the country, gaining extensive experience of legislation of trees in the development system, including appeals and public enquiries. He also has detailed experience of the protected tree system and legislation and project-managed and led a TPO review whilst working at West Berkshire Council. 

Jason has also worked as an arboricultural consultant since 2017, dealing with a wide range of projects throughout the south of England.
